Humans naturally have a tendency to make excuses. However, the things people make excuses for are usually some of the most important things they should be doing. Whether it’s reasons why you can’t exercise, do chores, or (if you’re in high school like me) do your homework, we all make excuses at some point or another.
As some of you may know, when I was 12 I wrote a children’s book called Tomato Turtle. Since then I have done many book signings and met a lot of aspiring authors at these events. But the one thing that all of those aspiring authors had in common was that they all had some sort of excuse why they haven’t or can’t write the book they’ve been dreaming about. Whenever people told me that I would always remind them that if I made the excuse that I was too young to publish a book and that no publisher would accept it, I wouldn’t be sitting in front of them.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that I don’t procrastinate or make excuses. However, I do think that I’ve learned from experience how to spot excuses and push through most of them. With that being said, today I want to share with you the most common excuses I’ve heard for not creating mobile apps and why they’re incredibly stupid.
Common Excuses:
Don’t Have Enough Time
This common excuse is one of the most annoying for me to listen to. The fact of the matter is that although people may think their lives are busy and hectic, 99% of the time it’s total BS. The reason for this is that most people have lots of free time but just don’t recognize this time. Do you really think that you’re too busy to make mobile apps when you sit on your ass an hour a day watching Jersey Shore? You can keep watching all these reality TV shows all you want, but if you want to change your reality, you need to turn off the TV and start working towards your goals today!
If you give the excuse that you don’t have enough time you are just being extremely lazy. Even if you are legitimately busy during the day this excuse is still BS. Guess what? I’m sitting here writing this post at 3:00am. Where are you right now? Sleeping? And how’s that working out for you? I hope you feel accomplished! Right now I am working because there are no distractions – I’m the only one awake in my house and there’s no noise. That’s why I am most productive late at night. The fact of the matter is while I may be getting less sleep than what I “should” be getting, don’t worry – I’ll make up for it in a few years when I’m taking a nap while relaxing on the beach because I’m making a full-time passive income from my mobile apps. 
Don’t Know How to Code
This is probably the most common excuse for not making mobile apps. Most people think that in order to create a mobile app you need to know how to code. Well guess what? I’m in the process of creating my first mobile app right now and I don’t know a thing about coding them! How is this possible? It’s possible because I’m hiring a developer to do the “dirty work” of coding and designing my app for me! Giving the excuse that you don’t know how to code for not creating a mobile app is like saying that because you don’t know how to fix your car, you’re just never going to drive again. That’s stupid – you just hire someone to fix it for you! Hiring people to create mobile apps for you is pretty much the same principle.
Another obvious solution is to actually learn how to code. 
Costs Too Much Money
For many people this sounds like a legitimate concern, not an excuse. If you don’t know how to code apps yourself it’s pretty expensive to hire a developer to make them for you, right? However, one of my favorite quotes about money is this one from Robert Kiyosaki: “The statement “I can’t afford it” shuts down your thinking. By asking the right question, you mind opens up and looks for answers.” You shouldn’t be saying “I can’t afford it” but instead, “how can I afford it?”
The first logical solution is to actually learn how to code apps yourself. Yes it is going to take months and months of hard work and frustration as you learn all the technicalities of coding. However, if you don’t have the $500-$30,000+ it would cost to hire a developer to turn your app idea into reality, it is a legitimate option that you should consider. And if you don’t have the time to learn how to code apps, make sure read the first excuse in this post.
There is also another option as well which I will go into more detail about in a future post. Instead of paying a developer a fixed price up front to make your app, you can find a developer to form a partnership with. He or she does the technical work, you do the marketing work and you split the profits you make from the app. Developers willing to do this are a lot harder to come by though, but this is definitely possible as I am doing it at the moment.
All the Good Ideas Are Taken
This is complete nonsense and is proven wrong time and time again! Yet somehow, tons of people are stupid enough to believe it! I’m sure lots of people thought the same thing in December of 2009 and then there came this app (I’m not sure if you’ve heard of it) called Angry Birds. “Wait, why didn’t I think of that idea?” you probably said. “NOW all the good app ideas MUST be taken!” Ok then, how do you explain Fruit Ninja, Instagram, Camera+, Paper Toss, and so many other great new app ideas since then?
In addition, who says that your app idea needs to be completely unique? My favorite example is Facebook. Facebook is one of the most successful ideas in the world, yet the idea of creating a social networks is not unique. Before Facebook there was MySpace and Friendster. Google is another great example. The idea of creating a search engine was not unique. Before Google there was AltaVista, Overture, Ask Jeeves, Yahoo, and many more. My point is, your idea doesn’t have to be unique, it just has to be better! Facebook beat the other social networks because it was better. Google beat the other search engines because it was better. It’s that simple!
What Now?
So what do you do now? All you excuses to not make mobile apps have just been exposed and knocked down! (And if they aren’t leave me your excuse in the comments section below and I’ll be happy to show you how dumb it is!) So now you have a choice: you can continue giving crappy excuses like the ones above to “justify” your laziness, or you can start working on making mobile apps to create passive income and live the life you want to live! It’s an easy call for me – what about you?
